Running Training in Droitwich
Start running. Run further. Achieve something you didn’t think you could.
Whether you’ve never considered yourself a runner, you’re working towards your first 5K, or you’ve signed up for a half marathon and aren’t quite sure how you’re going to get there, PMF can help.
Our friendly running sessions in Droitwich use walk/run training techniques in every session, helping you build distance and fitness in a controlled, achievable way.
We usually train on Tuesday evenings and Saturday mornings, combining structured running with the support and encouragement of the PMF community.
You don’t need to be a runner to start. That’s the point.
Runs typically start and finish in the Lido Park, Droitwich, near the bandstand (please check your booking page for exact details)
From Zero Running to a Half Marathon
Earlier this year, members of the PMF community achieved something pretty special.
People who had started with little or no running experience progressed through our walk/run training and went on to complete the Stratford Half Marathon.
That’s 13.1 miles — 21.1 kilometres.
They didn’t have to become non-stop runners to do it.
Using structured periods of running and walking allowed us to progressively increase distance, manage effort and make longer runs achievable.
The result?
From zero running to completing a half marathon.
That’s exactly what our approach is designed to achieve.
Why We Use Walk/Run Training
Walking isn’t failing at running.
At PMF, walk/run is the training method.
Rather than simply running until you’re exhausted and then stopping, we use planned walking intervals throughout our sessions.
That can help you:
Build distance progressively
Control your effort and pace
Recover during longer sessions
Make running accessible when you’re starting out
Train alongside people with different abilities
Tackle distances that might otherwise seem impossible
And it isn’t only for beginners.
We continue to use walk/run techniques as distances increase, including when training towards 10Ks and half marathons.
If you’ve previously tried running and found yourself exhausted after the first few kilometres, this can be a very different way to approach it.
Running Sessions for All Abilities
PMF running sessions are designed around different abilities and goals.
Sessions can include:
Structured walk/run intervals
Easy and steady running
Speed and interval training
Hill sessions
Pacing work
Endurance training
5K and 10K preparation
Half marathon training
Our walk/run approach means everyone doesn’t need to run at exactly the same speed or be capable of running continuously for the same length of time.
Tuesday Evening Running
Tuesday sessions give us an opportunity to work on fitness, pace and running technique using structured walk/run training.
Sessions vary and can include intervals, hills, shorter efforts and different running-to-walking ratios.
Saturday Morning Running
Saturday mornings are ideal for developing endurance and progressively increasing distance.
As we work towards longer events, we can gradually extend these sessions while continuing to use planned walking intervals to manage effort.
“But I’m Not a Runner…”
Perfect.
You don’t have to become a runner before joining a running session.
One of the biggest barriers people face is believing they need to be able to run 5K – or even run continuously – before joining a group.
You don’t.
We’ll start at an appropriate level and use structured walking and running intervals from the beginning.
Over time, those sessions can take you from your first few kilometres to distances you may never have expected to complete.
We know that because we’ve already helped people do exactly that.
Training for a 5K, 10K or Half Marathon?
Whatever distance you’re working towards, we can adapt the walk/run approach to suit the goal.
Your first 5K
Build confidence, fitness and distance using manageable running and walking intervals.
10K Training
Develop endurance and learn how to manage your effort as the distance increases.
Half Marathon Training
Progressively build towards 13.1 miles using the same walk/run principles we use throughout our training.
The objective isn’t necessarily to eliminate the walking sections.
It’s to develop a strategy that allows you to cover the distance effectively and confidently.
More Than Just Running
One advantage of training with PMF is that we’re not only a running club.
Strength, mobility and general fitness can all contribute to your running.
Through PMF Fitness Solutions, you can combine running with our outdoor group fitness sessions, helping develop overall conditioning alongside your running training.
What’s Your Running Goal?
It might be your first 5K.
It might be 10K.
It might even be a half marathon that currently feels completely out of reach.
You don’t need to be able to run continuously to get started – and you don’t necessarily need to run continuously to achieve it.
Earlier this year, we helped people progress from zero running to completing the Stratford Half Marathon.
Your starting point doesn’t have to determine your finishing point.
